OUR CONTAINER HOME.We wanted to build our own home, but do something different. After lots of research we have built a home from shipping containers.The blog goes back to before we started to present. Now we are close to done but it's been such fun sharing with are followers, we blog everyday things.I have lots of experience in the construction field so i was confident in our ventures. I know it's been awhile since i posted here. But since we opened our restaurant i have been busy there. The house is holding up well and i hope tp finish some painting and trim soon. I'm In !
I was voted in by my fellow fire fighters last week ! I am now the greenhorn in the Cairo VFD and proud of it. The guys that are involved are some of the nicest guys i've met. I can't wait to serve our town and be a help to protect our community !

New baby !
Our latest addition to the farm was born on 4/4/14. He's a bull calf and healthy as a horse. Good thing i was home yesterday to take care of business, then back to the restaurant. His name is Stewart after Tony Stewart, born on 4/4/14 and our fourth cow, just made sense !

I want to give back !
Since my last post , i filled out an application to join our towns volunteer fire company. Since we bought our restaurant in Cairo ,W.V. the town has really supported us. I want to dedicate time to helping them when they need it . There's a background check , vote in , then training . I'm up for the challenge !

Firefighter for a day !
So i'm at the restaurant taking out the trash to my truck. I hear a siren , then a yell for help. I ran down the street and one of our fire trucks pulled up. Our fire chief said he needed help because no other volunteers were there.So i jumped in the truck and Jerry Perdue climbed in to.He drove about 2 miles up to a pickup truck on fire down the road. Under the chiefs supervision we got the hose out and i got to put the fire out.Then we went back to the station , Jerry got to blow the horn. These were things we always wanted to do since we were kids. Then we refilled the trucks at the fire hydrant. What a great day , it's great i got to help!

Happy Birthday Shemp !
Today is Shemp Howard's birthday 3/17/1895 , Happy Birthday Shemp ! Since the tv interview folks have come from hours away to visit our restaurant. We have met alot of nice people and made alot of friends. Life is good !

Shemp's Cafe on TV ?
The WBOY channel 12 in West Virginia came
out to our restaurant and did an interview with us. It's called "Restaurant Roadtrip" and we were nominated to be aired. To see the video go to , www.wboy.com , look for special reports then click on Restaurant Roadtrip and we are there. We think their review is going to promote alot of business for us. A big " Thank You" goes out to Katie Anderson, Chris and all involved at the WBOY for the great job they did !!!

Party with a crane ?
Sorry i haven't posted in awhile , been busy. The restaurant is taken up alot of our time.Also i have been posting alot on facebook for advertising and alot of our customers go there. Check us out at " Shemp's Cafe" and like us on facebook. So our latest addition to the place is a " Big Choice crane machine". We just thru a surf & turf party to thank all our friends for their help and support ! On the menu was " Swamp boil & Prime rib " appitizers , dessert and refreshments ! Jim "Cornbread" Petry played for us too !

Our tribute is complete !
I have been working on the frame and lightbox for Jim. He gave us the glass from a pinball machine. He use to make these at a place he worked & thought it would look good in our restaurant.So i decide since he plays for us so often , i would dedicate it to him.With help from Jerry , our lettering & lighting guy its all complete. It now hangs in Shemp's for all to see !

Belated
I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year ! Our restaurant has been keeping us real busy and the cold is keeping us near the fire.
